Maya to arnold5/27/2023 Rendering a glass polyhedra with the attribute Opaque unchecked results in something like this: ![]() To get an object looking transparent like glass, setting the material’s aiStandardSurface preset to Glass is not enough the Opaque checkbox needs to be unchecked in the Attributes window of the Shape. There’s a concept of opaqueness in ai materials. It looks like we would be able to get a realistic look with some tweaking. The wooden table is looking a bit sad, but that’s expected since it’s set to be a plastic material right now with no normal maps. hdr image, the car paint is showing surface reflection, the honey is looking … well, like a tacky liquid albeit its hard shape. The plane is aiStandardSurface (Preset to Plastic for now and wood image texture applied to Color), and the smoothed cone is aiStandardSurface (Preset to Honey just for fun).įiring off Arnold –> Render gets us here: The sphere’s material here is aiStandardSurface (Preset to Chrome) and the torus is aiCarPaint (with Colour set to a blue hue). ![]() In my case, I had to re-create the scene from scratch and apply ai materials from the get go.)īelow is an example scene I will be lighting. (When I first had a scene with mib materials, then changed all materials to ai materials, the scene actually didn’t render at all everything became pink actually. Note: To get the render to work, materials in the scene must use the ones starting with ai… which is what Arnold will recognise, instead of mib… which was what Mental Ray recognised. (Some sample mirror dome images can be found at the bottom of this post.) hdr image to the Color attribute, and set the Format to how the image was taken. To create a SkyDome light, fire off Arnold –> Lights –> Skydome Light. Note: This post is not about making objects look realistic it’s about getting familiar with rendering with Arnold instead of Mental Ray. ![]() Similar to Mental Ray’s Image Based Lighting, Arnold’s aiSkyDomeLight is a simple way to light a scene that gives relatively realistic results. This post is designed to help transition from lighting a Maya scene with Mental Ray’s Image Based Lighting to the new Arnold’s aiSkyDomeLight. MentalRay for Maya is no longer supported.
